10:09:50 am <Nestalgica> Alright, guys. I've been kinda playing with a new technique in my last few fracts and wanted to test it out.
10:10:10 am <Nestalgica> So, let's get started with a blank flame
10:10:17 am <Nestalgica> I'm gonna assume you all know how to do that?
10:10:27 am <LameRabbit> yeah
10:10:28 am <rocknrollismyguitar>
10:10:30 am <EclipseDarkmaster>   total n00b
10:10:56 am <Nestalgica> This may be a little advanced for you, EclipseDarkmaster, but see if you can't follow along as best you can
10:11:02 am <EclipseDarkmaster> kk
10:11:13 am <Nestalgica> By the way, the best version for this tutorial is 2.05b2Z+
10:11:29 am <EclipseDarkmaster> meh 2.02,soz
10:11:41 am <Annushkka> Nestalgica: I am using the z+c+ should I go to the other?
10:11:44 am <r4v1> will it still work other normal 2.05b2?
10:11:48 am <Nestalgica> Annushkka: No, you're fine
10:11:56 am <Nestalgica> r4v1: Do you have the Split variation?
10:12:00 am <lyastri> EclipseDarkmaster: [link]
10:12:22 am <r4v1>   no worries
10:13:18 am <Nestalgica> Ok, so editor window -- take the red triangle, delete the Linear variation and add Gaussian_blur .3
10:14:14 am <Nestalgica> Go into the Transform window and reduce the weight of the triangle to .01
10:14:33 am <Annushkka> I don't when I lost the proper colors on my triangles... they look both purple.... but I know red is one, right?
10:14:36 am <Nestalgica> Low weight, I know, but it lets the fractal keep its shape
10:14:44 am <Nestalgica> Yes Annushkka
10:15:59 am <Nestalgica> Ok, click on the yellow triangle (transform 2) and take off the linear
10:16:30 am <rocknrollismyguitar> Annushkka: go to options, go to the editor tab, and uncheck the use ransform colors box, then they will be different colors
10:16:45 am <Nestalgica> Add Spherical 1, split .1 and ngon .1

10:16:54 am <Druology> Nestalgica: who the yellow transform?
10:17:02 am <Nestalgica> Druology: Transform #2
10:17:44 am <Nestalgica> Now, for the size of the triangle
10:18:31 am <Nestalgica> This may seem odd, but press the pX button up at the top of the editor window and scale the post-transform down about 10 times
10:18:53 am <LameRabbit> ten times what
10:19:04 am <my-name-is-gil> TwilightAmbiance: resizing the window does not work
10:19:19 am <Annushkka> hit the scale button 10 times?? whit what value??
10:19:25 am <rocknrollismyguitar> Nestalgica: using the default 125?
10:19:40 am <Nestalgica> rocknrollismyguitar: Yes
10:19:46 am <Nestalgica> 125% scale
10:20:04 am <Annushkka> oh, wow... can it be 9 times??
10:20:04 am <TwilightAmbiance> Nestalgica: After you add Ngon, the flame should go relatively blank, right?
10:20:18 am <Nestalgica> TwilightAmbiance: we'll change the weights for that
10:20:26 am <Nestalgica> And the variables
10:20:31 am <Nestalgica> Those have a big effect on the flame
10:21:07 am <Nestalgica> What you can also do is click and drag the line between the X point and Y point to make it very small
10:21:29 am <Annushkka> Nestalgica: I did the 10 down w/125 but I liked how 9 looked.... could I go back to that... or this is important
10:21:43 am <Nestalgica> Annushkka: No, it just has to be small
10:21:53 am <Nestalgica> This kind of thing is at your discretion
10:22:18 am <Nestalgica> Go into the Transform tab and make the weight 2.5
10:22:39 am <Nestalgica> Now, this is the part of the flame where you can start customization
10:23:09 am <Nestalgica> Go into the variables tab and find Split_xsize and Split_ysize
10:24:05 am <Nestalgica> The variables I have are xsize = 2 and ysize = 0, but you can change those to fit your style of flame best
10:24:55 am <Nestalgica> Is everyone following so far, or did I lose a few people?
10:25:03 am <TwilightAmbiance> Nestalgica: So right now, I have a squished colored line with a white spot in the middle. Does that look right?
10:25:26 am <Annushkka> Nestalgica: what about neg values??
10:25:27 am <Nestalgica> TwilightAmbiance: It will change when we change the ngon variables
10:25:35 am <Nestalgica> Annushkka: Try it -- see if it works!
10:25:51 am <Annushkka> it's lovely... I did y -.5
10:26:31 am <Nestalgica> Once you're happy with those values, scroll down until you find the 4 variables dealing with ngon
10:26:46 am <Nestalgica> Should be sides, power, circle, and corners
10:27:25 am <Nestalgica> For the sake of learning how these work, input the following values:
10:27:36 am <Nestalgica> ngon sides: 3
10:27:41 am <Nestalgica> ngon power: 2
10:27:44 am <Nestalgica> ngon circle: 0
10:27:50 am <Nestalgica> ngon corners: 10
10:28:46 am <Nestalgica> If you input anything higher than 2 for ngon power, the flame will most likely disappear, so a little goes a long way in that regard
10:29:16 am <Nestalgica> For ngon sides, you can input your own variable value to fit your desire
10:29:37 am <Nestalgica> ngon circle is, again, your choice
10:30:13 am <Nestalgica> ngon corners will make the flame more or less lopsided depending on the values you input
10:31:24 am <Nestalgica> After this, you can pretty much add anything, and it'll look good.
10:31:33 am <rocknrollismyguitar> orly?
10:31:50 am <Nestalgica> Try adding a triangle with Julian 1, power 4, dist -1
10:32:16 am <Nestalgica> (power and dist as the variable values)
10:33:38 am <Nestalgica> If you add a spherical final transform, there are lots of possibilities

I was really getting into this until I realized 2.07 is completely different lol. Still started me off in a couple cool directions. Are there comparable variations/functions I could substitute? maybe split/polar and something for ngon.... supershape or something? I'm still real green :P
